This might be the best feature of this blog for you…..our students. Basically. We’ll try any beer. If there’s something you’ve heard about but never tried, send us a message, or leave us a comment and we’ll hunt it down, take it in and give you our opinion. Plus, you will get the props on the blog. Good suggestions = an A+ grade for you. Bad suggestions (beer that sucks) = detention. Basically we’ll make fun of you on the internets.
You’re homework is this: Put us to the test. Tell us what you want us to taste. What beer have you heard about but never tried? We’ll try it for you and let you know what we think. Gluten free beers, such a hard subject to cover if you were able to actually drink real beer in your life! Basically, to a beer drinker, they all suck, but if you can not drink beer anymore, they ROCK! New Grist is a micro brew that is the best. Anheuser-Busch created Redbridge which is OK, especially since it has the best chance in actually being in a bar that you go to but does not live up to New Grist. let me know if you find others that are good at http://www.glutenfreegeek.com/blog

When you finish your Nashville classroom head up to Clarksville to the Blackhorse Pub & Brewery. I suggest you try the Barnstormer Red (everyones favorite) and I hear the Coalminer Stout is pretty good too…haven’t tried it though so don’t give me detention if it sucks

I know I’ve written this somewhere else on this blog, but this seems like a more appropriate place to put it:
-Highland Brewing Co.’s beers (all but mostly Gaelic Ale)
-Pisgah Brewing Co.’s Solstice -it’s very nice. Don’t think you can get it here…yet (I have to bootleg it from Black Mtn, NC).
-Magic Hat Brewing Co. - Everything I’ve had from them have been great so far.
-Pabst Blue Ribbon - heh heh heh…Just kidding. That’s the house beer when I’m cheap.

I have to agree with the Magic Hat recommendation introverted one suggested. Not sure where you can find it around Nashville though.
Of course you guys have to hit up The Flying Saucer one day/night. Also, check out PM on Belmont Boulevard. They have a nice eclectic bottled beer selection. Haven’t been there in a while so won’t make any suggestions but my buddy and I tried to drink ourselves around the world and were promptly drunk hehe.

Lagunits- particularly Censored Ale & Hairy Eyeball
Rogue- Shakespeare Stout, Dead Guy Ale
Mendocino- Red Tail Ale
I was sitting at corner pub with some friends last night and actually said the following… “can I get one of those Flat Tire beers.” The waitress said…. not skinny, but fat. I thought she was talking to me. Beer drinkers beware… even though you intend to say Fat…. that L wants to get in there, and you don’t want to make the same mistake that I made. I told her she wan’t skinny either. Made me feel better.

I too like the Highland brews…i like their Kashmir IPA a lot, as i like IPAs a lot. Also in my favorite IPAs is the Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA. (i havn’t tried it but i hear the 90 Minute IPA is also really good) I know both are available at Flying Saucer.
I’d also love to hear what you guys have to say about the local stuff from Yazoo and Blackstone.

Rogue distributes in TN. 12 South Taproom has a few of their beers in bottles if I remember. The Pond in Franklin has at least one on draft. If you do go back out to Franklin check out The Pond as well.
If you ever make it to Knoxville you’ve got to check out two places. First and foremost is the Downtown Grill(http://www.downtownbrewery.com/), my favorite being the Nut Brown and the Alt. Next stop by Cumberland Grill or Calhoun’s, my favorites here are the Black Bear and Cherokee Red. Yes, there are Calhoun’s in Nashville but they don’t get their brew imported from Knoxville, breaks my heart every time I drive by one.
Left Hand Stout: You can find it at Cafe Coco
Troeg’s Mad Elf- Found in PA, but 11% christmas flavored beer (you don’t drink it for the taste).
Negra Modelo: Personal favorite, that and the especial are two reasons never to drink corona. The dark is better.
Spaten or Spaten Ocktoberfest- German+beer=good
Yuengling: Best bang for your buck, same price as Budweiser but actually tastes good. Regular and Black and Tan both fantastic. Again, Pennsylvania represent.
Sam Adams Summer- Best Sam Adams ale, best beer for summertime.
Some beer from Pittsburgh that I think you can find in Broadway Brewhouse. Really good for the price ($3 a draft).
Dogfish Head- Hoppiest beer ever. Not much f a fan personally, but definitely a strong beer.
Pete’s Wicked Strawberry Blonde: Best flavored beer. They also have a Cream that’s even better but I can’t find it anywhere in Nashville.
And of course, anythig Yazoo or Blackstone.
Have you guys tried the new Schlitts? It’s supposed to be a return to the original recipe.

I suggest trying a little Boulevard’s Pale Ale…brewery from KC, Missouri…
After that, go for any of the Pike Place Brewing Company (made right by Puget Sound in Seattle)…they have a Monks’ brew Triple Boch!! It’s all of 9%…Their double boch is great, too.
I’m also agree with trying Highland (Gaelic & Oatmeal Porter) and the Blackhorse Brews.

BBC (Bluegrass Brewing Co.) Nut Brown Ale and/or Altbier

Put on your SHAFT outfit and try it for me. Tell me how it tastes.
I’ve never been able to track it down, but there is a tequila infused beer called Desperado that I’ve heard is excellent. I haven’t looked for it I guess since moving down south…hmm, I’ll have to search.
Also, since I’m a Nebraska boy, see if you can track down some Empyrean Ales. Its a Lincoln, NE brewing company and I recommend the Burning Skye or Third Stone.
Magic Hat #9 is great, but they made a smokey porter that was hideous…you should try it!

Dogfishhead Rules…they have a brewery/restaurant at 7 corners in Falls Church VA…good times. I know that the 60 and 90 minute names have to do with part of the brew process, but I swear it’s how long it takes the booze to leave your system…I mean 9%! Ho Ho Holy Smokes!
My newest discovery.
It’s a bit more top shelf (in a manner of speaking I’ve only seen it in an 11.2 oz bottle), but I’m sold on it.
Delirium Tremens. It’s a Belgian Ale out of a family brewery in, well, Belguim. 8.5% by volume, but very tasty.
I highly recommend it.
Beers I’d recommend you seek out and try. (not that I need a review, I know they are good. :o) )

Wisconsin also has an amazing amount of sour beers/lambics that we can’t get here if you dig the Cantillon!

I think its time for you lads to try Summit Ale from Saint Paul MN. They have a Red ale that is out of this world. They also brew a Extra Pale ale that is the most “drinkable” ale I have ever tried. I n Nashville try some Blackstone beers. Keep up the good work Prost!

I’d suggest Sweetwater Summer Hummer as a great summer beer. It’s a Belgian white so it works well with Blue Moon lovers. Sweetwater also has an ESB called Motor Boat that is just dandy.
To whoever suggested Desperado…I tried it recently for the first time (had never heard of it) in Paris, France, of all places. It was kind of odd, to me, but not terrible
